I submitted my resume but I haven't heard from you.

We receive a great deal of applications for each job and are unable to reply personally to each one. We may take up to sixty days from the point of posting a job before interviewing candidates. If you have not heard from us within this period after having sent in your resume then either a) your candidacy has been disqualified for procedural reasons (e.g., for not having included a cover letter) or b) based on our review of your profile, we don't believe that your submission represents a good enough fit for our needs.

Why do you want a resume AND a cover letter?

Call us old fashioned, but we'd like to see evidence that you actually spent some time to read the job description, find out about the company, and compose a letter to us explaining why you think, based on your research, you'd be a good fit. Indeed, it takes a little time to explore the website and blog and find out quite a bit about our business and what we're planning to do - hopefully, however, this approach will give you enough information to effectively sell yourself to us. Please help us see why you would be the best person for the job! Keep in mind that even though we ask for submission via email, it is still good practice to use all the formalities you would use if we had asked for a written submission.

We'd also like to see your cover letter refer to the actual job for which you are applying. When we see a letter that refers to 'the opening in your company' and uses other generic terms with no reference to the specific posting, or skills for which we've asked, then we suspect that individual has spent virtually no time actually considering whether the job is appealing enough, or more to the point, determining whether that individual is actually qualified for the role.

Finally, if the job description states that excellent written communication skills are needed, then we aren't going to be very impressed if a letter comes in with incorrect grammar and spelling, particularly if the position requires a lot of correspondence activity.

May I resend my resume and cover letter?

Yes, but please note in your cover letter that you are resubmitting.

Why don't you put salary information on the job postings?

We expect to negotiate the salary package with the right person. In our view, the right person is unlikely to be someone who decided to apply only because we posted a salary that was a more than that person is currently earning. The job either really resonates with you, or it doesn't. We aren't looking for people for whom this is 'just a job to pay the bills.' And we don't want to discourage 'rock stars' from applying because we posted a salary that they would consider too low.

We're not an unrealistic team. We know it's not inexpensive to live in the Bay Area because we live here, too,. But in this start-up mode, we truly are looking at the best candidates and assessing what value they can bring to the company. That enables us to consider and fairly compensate someone moving up in the world who has the drive and skills but the not the experience, as well as a very seasoned professional who would bring certain elements to the position that we may not have initially considered but would greatly value. If you want us to be aware of what your expectations might be, feel free to include a salary history. There is an 'Additional attachment' button you can use to upload info like that.

Will you sponsor me for a visa to work in the USA?

No, unless the position specifically states that we will entertain applicants from overseas.

top

Will you relocate me to the Bay Area?

If relocation is available, it will be indicated in the job posting. For the majority of posts, there is no relocation assistance available.

top

Will I be able to ride on the Zeppelin?

Yes! Part of our 'compensation' package will include a number of opportunities per year to fly on the ship.

top

May I telecommute?

No. All positions are based at Moffett Field unless it states otherwise in the job posting. We will be flexible when considering issues such as commute considerations, etc., but this will also be position-dependent as some jobs - particularly those relating to the airship and passenger operations - are rigid in terms of daily start and finish requirements. If you interview with us, anticipate that specific needs of the position sought and any travel or schedule requirements will be discussed at that time.

The job states that travel will be required. Will I need a passport?

Several jobs will require a visit overseas to Zeppelin in Germany and/or other locales. If you don't currently have a passport, it would be a good idea to get one (and you never know when you might decide to explore the rest of the world anyway!)

May I send in a resume now for a position that you've listed but is not yet 'live'?

Please wait until the position is actually posted. As we've noted above, it really is impossible to properly apply for a position without access to the job requirements. You are welcome, of course, to sign up for our mailing list to ensure that you are notified when new jobs are posted.

top

The job I want to apply for doesn't have a link to any description or form.

That's because that job is not yet live and we are not yet accepting applications. Please sign up for our mailing list to be notified when jobs are posted.

top

I have a question about a job that you have posted or will be posting - how can I make an inquiry?

Please use the general 'contact us' form on this website and make sure you refer to the job in your subject line. We'll do our best to get back to you in a timely way, although we will prioritize questions in terms of positions that are currently open.

Can I visit Airship Ventures to drop off my resume?

Please submit your application via email. If email is difficult for you (for example, if you are using a computer in a public library) then you should mail in your resume to our mailing address, listed on the contact us page.

You mention that the company uses Macs. I've never used one before. Would I have an option of using a PC instead if I get the job?

No. Sorry, but that's a non-negotiable point (and we're happy about that!) However, if you're used to MS Office, then you won't notice a great deal of difference with the software we use.

Do you offer good coffee and snacks in the office break room?

We suppose that answer depends on your definition of 'good.' Our staff, however, likes the quality of the snacks and refreshments we serve well enough - we hope you would, too! Good luck!!!
